Master Chainsaw Sculptor Jesse Green at HHS

Master Chainsaw Sculptor, "The Machine" Jesse Green, has committed to design and sculpt one-of-a-kind, life-sized landmarks for dozens of Massachusetts communities over the next several years. The effort, entitled "Project Eco-Art Massachusetts" is the first of its kind and aims to create a cultural tourism path across the state while helping to stimulate local economies and raise eco-awareness at the same time.

"The Machine" Jesse Green, a lifelong Massachusetts native, has more than a decade of wood sculpting experience, including time as the featured Chainsaw Artist for the touring Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show. For Project Eco-Art Massachusetts, his team will work alongside residents, school personnel and public officials, to select sculpture themes that capture the unique identity of individual municipalities. Live chainsaw sculpting events will then be held in each town to showcase green initiatives and local talent as well as increase cultural awareness.

Mr. Green wants environmental issues "not to be forgotten during these difficult economic times" and believes the people of what he calls "the greatest State in the Union" deserve a positive message and "very cool, lasting gift."   He goes on to say "Massachusetts has given me so much and my goal is to capture the individual community's identity and honor it with a unique and lasting landmark that each citizen can be proud to  call their own for generations to come."

Project Eco-Art Massachusetts launched last week in Mr. Green's hometown of Medway.  He used his chainsaw to sculpt a Mustang in honor of the High School and an Old Fashioned Policeman for the Medway Police Department. Police Chief Allen Tingley commented, "We've gotten nothing but positive feedback from the citizens."  He goes on to say, "I think a few other police departments are a little jealous.  But he did a fantastic job and it's a great thing for the community to look at."

The ambitious project, which will take many months to complete, will be funded by corporate sponsors and individual donations.  Parties interested in receiving a sculpture, sponsoring the initiative or learning more should contact the manager of Project Eco-Art Massachusetts.

The Holliston Eco-Art Project is slated for Friday, November 20th from 11:30AM to about 3PM at Holliston High School.  I'd love to invite you to the event.  Please let me know if you can make it and if so, what time could we expect you?

The History Department is currently working on a theme though the town's founder is an early front-runner. Jesse will be carving the majority of the sculpture on-site then finishing it back at his studio.  Hopefully we will have some special guests on-hand to discuss relevant history and green-legislation.
