Holliston Dancers To Study at Prestigious Summer Programs

Maggie Bergman, a sophomore at Holliston High School will be studying dance at the Washington School of Ballet's Summer Intensive program in Washington, D.C. for four weeks this summer.  Maggie was also accepted into the Joffrey Ballet School Summer 2010 Intensive, the NY Jazz and Contemporary, the Miami Jazz and Contemporary, and the Georgia Jr Trainee Intermediate Program.  Maggie began her dance training at the Dancing Arts Center in the after school program four years ago. Prior to beginning her dance training, Maggie was a competitive gymnast, having competed in the Massachusetts USA State Championships, in 2006, where she won 3rd all around for the state at Level 5, including floor routine, uneven bars, balance beam, and vault. Under the advice of her dance director and master instructors at the Dancing Arts Center, Maggie elected to attend the Washington School of Ballet because she felt it would be a launching point for her first summer study away from the Dancing Arts Center.

Lindsey Moore, a senior at Holliston High School, will be attending Kaatsbaan Extreme Ballet 2010 at Kattsbaan International Dance Center in Tivoli, New York, under the direction of Martine van Hamel of American Ballet Theatre.  Lindsey has attended the Dancing Arts Center since she was 4 years old.  She studied dance intensively at the Dancing Arts Academy for 1 1/2 years while pursuing distance learning and entered Holliston High School as a freshman in September 2006. Lindsey has attended Summer Intensive Programs at Pittsburgh Ballet Theater and Orlando Ballet School. This fall, Lindsey will pursue a BFA in Ballet Performance at Butler University in Indianapolis.

In addition to Maggie and Lindsey, eight other Dancing Arts Center students from six other Metro West towns including Ashland, Framingham, Hopkinton, Natick, Sherborn, and Upton, have been accepted into nationally known summer programs.  Most of these chosen dancers auditioned each weekend in January in both Boston and New York, as major companies from across the country selected the top candidates.  Karyn Edison, Dancing Arts Center Director, feels that receiving outside perspective and feedback from other master teachers is helpful at the right time and place during her students’ educations. Therefore, she helps them decide when, where, and with whom they should be seen and then helps them determine which program is best suited for them during the summer. All students return to the Dancing Arts Center before the summer is out to begin establishing the next step in developing their careers.
