Mission Possible Looking for Votes
Mission Possible president, Stephanie Collier submitted an essay to enter the contest. Holliston is among the Top 10 finalists and your votes are needed to make this "Possible". Collier's essay stressed how often Goodwill Park is used by not only Holliston residents but residents from surrounding towns, too. Collier also explained that although Mission Possible has plans to renovate the playground, valuable shade trees will need to be removed. An excerpt from her essay follows below:
"Goodwill Park is town-owned and nestled in historic downtown Holliston on the bus route. Here we host our annual Celebrate Holliston Festival, Youth baseball and Youth Soccer games, High School Tennis matches, Summer concerts, Newcomers’ play-groups, and most importantly, Parks and Recreation Summer programs for over 250 kids. As families enjoy food, music, sports, and games, the children’s playground is 20 years old with deteriorating wooden structures that are not safe or handicapped accessible.
We’ve raised $60,000 to renovate this playground, but we will lose some of the trees that provide natural shade. We are removing as few as possible, but many are diseased and some are in the way. WE NEED SHADE and are grateful for the chance to apply for this Neutrogena grant.
S: Safe, Shaded, Sensory Integrated play! H: Holliston’s primary playground! A: Accessible for all abilities! D: Developmentally challenging! E: Exercise and develop a healthy lifestyle!"
