Letter to the Editor

I am a 4 term Selectman in Holliston, currently serving in my 10th year. I have also served on the Holliston Finance Committee, Golf Course Advisory Committee, Sewer Study Committee and numerous other joint bodies. I have been a member of the Holliston Lions club for 13 years and a member of Celebrate Holliston for over decade, while serving as this year's chairman. I also served 3 terms as Chairman of the 495 Metrowest  Corridor Partnership, the Arc of Innovation, where as Municipal co-chair, I represented 31 cities and towns.
I am married and have 2 children who attend the Holliston Public schools.

As the candidates in the 8th Middlesex State Representative race know, I have not endorsed anyone to date.I have waited for the debates to conclude and to review each candidate's position carefully. I feel I owed that to the constituents who have elected me to serve in their best interests. These debates showed that their were ideas to be debated, not just concepts such as hard work, the need to work together on Beacon Hill and the need for new ideas. The latter are buzz words for "elect me and I will work hard". Frankly, if someone did not work at the job and get results, we can replace them a short 2 years later.

I also read literature mailed to my home by both candidates, and other groups supporting one candidate over another.

To be candid, I have never favored unions and interests groups telling me what is best for me and my family.

I personally know both candidates, having consulted often with Mr. Haley on many issues and having served in Town government with Ms. Dykema both on the same board and working together on Town issues. I respect both candidates and feel both are intelligent and well liked individuals .I am sure whomever wins will work hard for our district.

In the end, regardless of who wins, I will work with that individual to do what is best for Holliston and  and all of  Metrowest.

We in Metrowest are considered wealthy on Beacon Hill. As such, our aid competes with cities and towns that are,in legislators' eyes, more in need than we are, and as a result, we get tolls, lower aid, less grants and , in the end, the need to turn to our homeowners and taxpayers to balance our budgets. This upcoming year , we in Holliston, like in Hopkinton, Medway and other towns, will be forced to cut our budgets by as much as 5%. In no uncertain terms, this is a disaster looming over the taxpayers' heads.

I have worked closely with both sides of the aisle on Beacon Hill. I have great respect for Senators Spilka, Brown and Resor, and have worked  along side with former Representative Steve Leduc, and Representatives Linsky and Valle.I therefore believe that I am in a good position to judge what is best for our district.

When Paul Loscocco ran for office in 2000, he touted many of the same positions as Dan Haleyis currently advocating for and was elected despite heavy voting statewide for the Democratic Presidential nominee.
In 2000, we were able to vote for the person, not the party. He advocated for fiscal responsibility and the need to send messages to Beacon Hill for fiscal restraint, but no one has ever said Paul Loscocco was anti-education or that Paul did not have compassion and empathy for working families.

Who would challenge the notion that Paul was one of the most effective and accomplished State legislators this region has ever seen. The idea that Beacon Hill needs a 2 party system is not novel, but is in great jeopardy.

And as voters, how can we not believe in some way that  the unfortunate events of this past week involvin
