Loya Announces Run for Planning BoardAn Open Letter to Holliston Residents,
After finishing my State Representative campaign in November of 2010, I at first told myself that I had to take a small reprise from politics for a while to spend time with family, friends, etc. When I took a look at which offices were up for election this coming spring, I knew from the very first glance that there was one place in particular for me to try and make a difference in this beloved town of Holliston that we all call home. As a result, I am announcing that I am running for the seat on the Planning Board that is currently held by Len Engel.
As a resident of Holliston for the past 17 years and grew up here as a child, I have seen the town go through many ups and downs to bring us to the point where we currently stand. After being presented with so many great opportunities to be successful in life by growing up here in Holliston, I want to provide that same opportunity for success to current residents and residents of the future. Over the last year or so, I learned a lot about myself as a person and became even more submerged in what it means to be from Holliston, that it only motivates me more to see the best decisions be made for the people of this great town. I never realized just how active and passionate people were in the community for whatever the reason may be until I got a chance to talk to residents on my journey for State Representative in 2010.
In running for Planning Board, I believe in three key concepts that will help lead this board in the right direction: balance, common sense, and transparency. It is wonderful to have a significant amount of open space and a “green-minded” community, but we also have to be open to bringing in new business to town. It is all about making common sense decisions that provide that necessary balance between allowing new business and protecting our bedroom community that we have currently. In the process I don’t think residents know enough about the Planning Board and what they do as part of their duties, so I would like to raise awareness of their actions. Whether it be by broadcasting the board’s meetings on local Cable Access television more frequently or upgrading their website so it makes people want to come back again for information, the Planning Board needs to be more accessible to the residents of Holliston.
I have always loved growing up and living here in Holliston, and I want to create that same sense of enjoyment for future generations to come. I believe that between my background in previously running for a larger-scale political office in 2010, my education in political science, and my previous service to the community, that I have the necessary skills to be a member of the Holliston Planning Board. I could not be more thrilled and honored to ask my fellow Holliston residents in supporting and electing me as the next member of the Holliston Planning Board this May 24, 2011.
Best regards, Jonathan A. Loya
