Selectman Candidate Asks About the Lawn Sign By-LawWhere are your lawn signs? According to Holliston Zoning By Law V-B 2 (4) 4. Unlighted, temporary political signs of no more than six square feet are allowed in all zoning districts. Said signs may be posted not more than thirty days prior to election and must be removed within seven days following election. (Amended April 1973 – ATM, Art. 21) As a lawyer, I believe that laws exist for a reason and I believe in the role that laws play in providing us with guidance and order (whether you agree with them or not.) As a Candidate for Selectman, I believe in the application of all the Town by-laws equally to all of its residents. I also believe that the by-laws are an expression of the people of this town as to how they want their town managed. The sign by-law exists to manage what could otherwise be a never ending political season that would have Holliston littered with political signs for months leading up to an election. For some, political signs are an energizing expression of support for a candidate, for others they are an eyesore. For this reason, I will not be putting any of my lawn signs in place until April 25th, out of respect for the residents of Holliston, the Town, and its by-laws. The reason I am addressing this issue is that I do not want my lack of political signage to be seen as an expression of apathy by myself, my campaign, or my supporters. These elections are about the Town of Holliston as a whole, and not any one candidate. As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or visit our website at votemarsden.org . Regards, Jay Marsden Candidate for Selectman
