Weekly Weather Report

by Trevor Battle

Cool and very dry weather anticipated for the next 5-7 days.

Once again we’re entering a cooler than normal weather pattern which should persist for a least the next 5-7 days.  A powerful cold front was responsible for our weather pattern change as well as Monday night's thunderstorms.

This past weeks weather (March 8th - March 15th)

Coldest:  March 8th= 15F

Warmest: March 10th= 68F

Precipitation: 1/4 inch rain late March 13th

Weather trends (the week ahead).

Temperatures
For the next several days temperatures will average well below normal.  According to the National Weather Service, our coldest period will be this weekend when temperatures are only expected to reach the mid to upper 30's.  Our normal high temperature for this time of year is in the mid to upper 40's.  We should moderate to near normal temperatures by Tuesday of next week.

Precipitation
The National Weather Service is currently forecasting little to no precipitation for the next week or so.  With the notable exception of Monday night's 1/4 inch of rain, Holliston has seen little to no precipitation since mid-February.  If this pattern were to persist though early April, there will likely be significant water resource and brush fire issues.   We will have to watch this very closely over the next few weeks.

Spring arrives next Monday!

The official start of spring, or the Vernal Equinox, arrives Monday March 20th at 1:26PM.  On this day everyone on Earth receives an equal amount of daylight and darkness.  After this date, there is progressively more daylight than darkness in the northern hemisphere.

Trevor Battle is a longtime resident of Holliston and a Trained Severe Weather (SKYWARN) Spotter for the National Weather Service as well as a weather enthusiast.  In this section he’ll provide reports of daytime high and low temperatures as well as precipitation and other weather events affecting Holliston.  Weather alerts and forecast will mostly come from the National Weather Service office in Taunton.
