Weekly Weather Report

by Trevor Battle

Cool & dry weather continues…………..

March can be a cruel month weather-wise.  Just as we were getting used to the near 70F degree weather of last week, we get pushed back to a mid-winter like chill. Our area has experienced well below temperatures and precipitation during the last week.  Monday was the coldest of the week with high temperature of just 35F.  Our normal high temperature for the date is 47F.
Just as notable as cold weather is the continued absence of rain.  Typically, the Metrowest region averages close to 4 inches of rain during the month of March.  According to the National Weather Service, we’ve only received a half inch of rain thus far with a little more than a week left in the month. The reason for our persistently cool & dry weather is a stubborn atmospheric blocking pattern over Canada and Greenland.

This past week's weather (March 16th through March 23rd)

Coldest:  March 18th= 20F

Warmest: March 17th= 46F

No Measurable precipitation

Weather trends (the week ahead).

Temperatures:

The latest NWS forecast indicates that our temperatures will steadily improve over the next several days with temperatures returning close to normal (near 50F) early next week.  Additionally, our overnight low temperatures should stay close to 30F.

Precipitation

With the exception of a few flurries and/or showers tonight, little or no significant precipitation is currently expected during the next week.  The NWS only indicates a chance of showers by the middle of next week. This March is well on the way to being one of the top five driest on record.
